25 Genomes: Mapping Nature’s Code

25 new genomes are being decoded by the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute to mark its 25th Anniversary. Your students can choose 5 of them! Click here to register your interest.

Once you’ve filled in the registration form, you’ll receive an email asking you to tell us how many classes you’d like to take part with. Let them know your preferences by 10 amFriday 29th September.

Between 6th November – 8th December, a team of scientists and wildlife experts will each champion a species they think should have its entire DNA sequence decoded.

Your students can log in any time throughout this 5-week event to ASK questions about all the species in the competition. Your class will also have a 30-minute live CHAT to talk with the “species” and VOTE for the ones they want to be sequenced as part of the Wellcome Sanger Institute’s 25-anniversary celebrations.

Resources to help brief your students on the event will be provided to help them understand more about DNA and genomics. Students will get access to scientists working at the cutting edge of genomics and conservation, and a unique insight into the most advanced DNA techniques in the world.
