The Central Statistics Office are running an All-Ireland apps4gaps competition for students. There is also an open category where teachers can also enter!
Entitled Apps4Gaps, it is a competition aimed at encouraging people to develop ideas and create applications that will provide innovative and fresh ways of exploiting the Open Data freely available from the Census 2011 that could benefit society in such areas as transport, housing, planning, education, communications and health.

There are two entry types in the competition::

  • Concept entry: Proposal of ideas for theoretical software app(lications)
  • Working app: Submission of a fully developed app
     

Registration for the competition has to take place by January 31st, with submission of project by April 11th.
