FIONN – Ireland’s new supercomputer

Minister Seán Sherlock TD, Minister for Research and Innovation announced Ireland’s latest supercomputer called FIONN at the Dunsink Observatory in November. The name, chosen by Oscar O’Donoghue, a student from DCU CoderDojo, stems from Fionnachtana (Irish for Discovery) and Fionn Mac Cumhaill.

Coderdojo wins European Citizen’s Prize

Coderdojo has won the prestigious European Citizen’s Prize, following a nomination by Seán Kelly MEP. The non-profit network of free coding clubs for youth, which was originated in Cork by James Whelton with Bill Liao, is the only Irish based organisation to win the award this year.
