Overall SciFest Winner 2015

‘Bringing Genetics to the Masses: the next step in Genetic Research’ was the overall winning project at 2015 SciFest Awards in Marino Conference Centre, Dublin. Louis Madden a 5th year student from Largy College, Clones in Monaghan took away the top prize for his comprehensive project isolating and amplifying chloroplast DNA from a strawberry tree. By doing a comparative analysis against a known database, he was able to prove that his homemade kit worked effectively. His teacher Ms Magennis won the teacher award. Louis is the middle child, with two sisters. His mother is a teacher and his father is a retired army officer.
