Robert Boyle Summer School

This year we celebrate the 9th Robert Boyle Summer School, which will explore the theme: Women in STEM; past, present and future. This important theme has been carried over since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will now run online on Saturday 26th June 2021.

Our FREE programme for the Summer School this year runs from 10 am – 4.15 pm on Saturday 26th June. The programme includes a session on historical women in STEM, featuring Clodagh Finn (Irish Examiner), Dr Liz Bruton (Science Museum, London) and Prof Colm Mulcahy (Spellman College, GA and curator of Irish Maths Archive); a discussion on STEM Journeys with Prof Dervilla Donnelly and Regina Moran FIEI (VP Strategic Programmes and Change Fujitsu) and Dr Vida Hamilton,  (HSE National Clinical Advisor and Group Lead, Acute Operations); the launch of Michelle diMeo’s book ‘Lady Ranelagh: the incomparable life of Robert Boyle’s sister’; a keynote address from Prof Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell on the discovery of pulsars. The day will close with a discussion on the future of women in STEM with Dr Eucharia Meehan (Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies), Prof Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell and Dr. Abigail Ruth Freeman (Science Foundation Ireland).
