Inspiring Science Education EU project

Dublin City University is currently working with the EU Inspiring Science Education (ISE) project in the development of engaging elearning resources for science classes. In February DCU will be holding an information webinar for schools interested in availing of digital resources and class plans developed in line with the Irish science curriculum. The Irish Times has linked up with Trinity College to do a citizen science survey on catsDr Aoife McLysaght spoke to Ryan Tubridy on RTE 2FM Wednesday 21st to explain the project!

The ISTA Annual Conference in Cork on 27th - 29th March 2015 will host a full day of talks, activities and teaching ideas for primary teachers who want to develop the teaching of science in their schools. Winners of BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition

Congratulations to Ian O'Suillivan and Eimear Murphy from Coláiste Treasa who won the top prize at the 51st BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition with their Social & Behavioural project 'Alcohol Consumption: Does the apple fall far from the tree?" Congratulations also to their teacher, Derry O'Donovan, is a member of the Cork Branch of ISTA.


Science & Technology in Action

The 10th edition of Science & Technology in Action was recently launched by Minister for Education and Skills, Jan O'Suillivan. It should now be in all schools and has various on line resources that should be of value to teachers when preparing a Transition Year Science programme or getting ideas for projects to enter competitions such as SciFest & Young Scientist.


ICI Chemistry Newsletter Competition 2015

This is the International Year of Crystallography. Chemistry students are invited to write a newsletter for the Institute of Chemistry of Ireland on the topic. Full details attached.

Clean Tech Competition 2015

The Clean Tech Competition is a unique, worldwide research and design challenge for pre-college youth. The program encourages scientific understanding of real-world issues and the integration of environmentally responsible energy sources.

An online campaign for UNESCO Mobile Learning Week 2015 was launched this week. This year’s campaign will look at how mobile technology can help empower women and girls.
