The upcoming 3rd lecture in the Robert Boyle school Series will be on Monday 22nd March at 5 pm.
Dr. Michelle DiMeo will give a talk entitled: “Robert Boyle, Lady Ranelagh, and the Great Plague of 1665-66”
Historian Dr. Michelle Di Meo, Arnold Thackray Director of the Othmer Library Science History Institute Philadelphia will talk about the collaboration of Lady Ranelagh, with her brother Robert on scientific work especially medicinal efforts to alleviate suffering. This lecture marks her 406th birthday.
Michelle has introduced Irish audiences to Katherine Jones (nee Boyle) at previous Robert Boyle Summer Schools. Referred to in her lifetime as “The Incomparable Lady Ranelagh” she was a leading intellectual figure in the interregnum and restoration periods, eras not commonly associated with influential women in the public sphere. Michelle has completed the first full biography of Lady Ranelagh which will be out soon.
