Undoubtedly, Prof Luke O’Neill is Ireland's best-known scientist, and through the Covid-19 pandemic, he has become a household name across the country, through his weekly radio slot, radio, and TV interviews where he explains to the public important scientific issues in the fight against Covid-19.
Prof Luke O Neill has held the Chair of Biochemistry at Trinity College Dublin since 2008. In 2016, Luke was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society and in the same year was named by Clarivates/Thompson Reuters as one of the world’s most influential scientists. He has won numerous awards for his research, notably the Royal Irish Academy Medal for Biochemistry, the Irish Society for Immunology medal, the Royal Dublin Society/ Irish Times Boyle medal for Scientific Excellence, the Science Foundation Ireland Researcher of the Year Award 2009 and in 2020 received the SFI Outstanding Contribution to Stem Communication award
Luke is a regular contributor to the Robert Boyle summer school, has presented in 2019 and also in 2014.
