The new laboratory apprenticeship allows you to earn a salary while you gain a nationally recognised third-level qualification and essential industry experience with some of the Irelands leading Life science companies.

BioPharmaChem Ireland, the business association within Ibec representing the biopharma and chemical sectors, along with an industry Consortium, made up of leading biopharma companies, in partnership with the TUD, Tallaght, has developed two new laboratory apprenticeship programmes leading to Laboratory Technician and Laboratory Analyst occupations.

The laboratory apprenticeships are,“ earn while you learn” higher certificate and degree programmes that combine paid on-the-job training with academic study. These two and three-year programmes are suitable for leaving certificate students or those with an equivalent qualification, who have an interest in pursuing a career in science. The laboratory apprenticeships lead to a Level 6Higher Certificate in Science as a Laboratory Technician and a Level 7 Ordinary Bachelor of Science Degree as a Laboratory Analyst. Both laboratory apprenticeship programmes have been developed to support a learning structure of three days in the industry and two days in academia. This structure facilitates the continuous learning and hands-on work experience undertaken by the apprentice who will learn the behaviours and skills -including but not limited to the analysis of samples, equipment preparation, pH checks, titrations, water testing, chromatography and microbiological techniques -necessary for a successful career in a laboratory environment.

Three days at work, two days studying and a salary-the perfect combination for a successful career in a laboratory environment and beyond
