Learning for Life

As you may be aware, the report of the Oireachtas Committee on Education was published last week. You may recall that the ISTA made a written submission to the Oireachtas Committee expressing concerns about the template that is currently being used by NCCA for designing syllabi/ specifications and recommending that detailed syllabi/ specifications be published as part of Senior Cycle reform. Our recommendation has been supported by the Oireachtas Committee as one of its Ten Key Report Recommendations (see p. 11, Recommendation 2 of the attached document). This is really good news for Leaving Certificate Biology, Chemistry and Physics. I believe that the Agricultural Science Teachers’ Association and Irish Teachers Association also made similar submissions to the Oireachtas Committee. So hopefully the NCCA will take this on board going forward with the Senior Cycle Reform.
