SciFest goes online!

SciFest is Ireland’s largest STEM Fair programme for second-level students. SciFest operates across the whole Island of Ireland and throughout the entire school year and being locally and regionally based and free to enter it is highly inclusive and accessible.

In SciFest, second-level students showcase STEM projects at a series of one-day STEM fairs held locally in schools and regionally at 16 venues in the Institutes of Technology, TU Dublin, DCU and St. Mary’s College, Derry. The winners from each regional STEM fair will go on to compete at a national final in November 2020. The winner(s) of the SciFest National Final 2020 will represent Ireland at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2021 in the USA.

The 16 SciFest Regional fairs (SciFest@College) were due to take place between 27 March and 14 May. Over 3,000 students had registered their projects prior to the COVID-19 restrictions. In order not to disappoint these students who had worked so hard on their projects SciFest@College 2020 has become an online competition for this year. Second-level students who had previously registered for SciFest@College 2020 are being asked to submit their project report books as well as supplementary material to www.scifest.ie for online judging by Thursday, 14th May 2020. Teachers are asked to encourage their students to continue to work on their projects and guide them through any questions they may have.

Parents, teachers  and students are asked  to adhere strictly to the advice given re health and safety and to check the HSE website regularly for updates.
