FameLab Olympics in the Science Gallery

“Famelab Olympics” will bring together 11 young scientists, all of them alumni from national FameLab competitions from 11 EU countries and judge their presentations on the 3C’s: Content, Clarity and Charisma.

Competitors will be from Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Switzerland and the UK. Each will deliver short 3-minute pieces on science and sports – expect to hear anything from fuzzy logic in football to how the brain recognizes the body of the sprinter is moving. The audience will vote their favourite presenter who will have to be judged according to Famelab’s golden rule – the 3C’s: Content, Clarity and Charisma.
Since its birth at Cheltenham Science Festival in 2004, FameLab® has grown into arguably the world’s leading science communication competition. A partnership with the British Council since 2007 has seen the competition go global and this year’s International Final on 15 June at the Cheltenham Science Festival featured the winners from 19 countries, thousands of engaging scientists, engineers and mathematicians have been competing to make it to the FameLab International Grand Final hosted by Quentin Cooper, presenter of BBC Radio 4′s Material World. The 19 finalists took to the stage in two semi finals and the grand final to convey the wonder and relevance of a chosen scientific specialism in just three minutes.
FameLab® is an initiative of the Cheltenham Festivals in the UK. The British Council has license to deliver the competition in 20 countries overseas. NASA has license to deliver the competition in the USA. FameLab International is co-produced by Cheltenham Festivals and British Council.
